Lesson Planning

Everything starts with a great plan. A lesson would be more effective if the trainer embedded it with a core minimum digital element.

  • How can technology complement your lesson plans effectively? By finding resources and helpful content for teaching and learning online. Be mindful of online spaces that offer instructional resources, like search engines.
  • Increase your productivity by using simple tools to create and edit resources; use 'MS office' software to design and edit worksheets and quizzes, for example. Also, you can improve attentiveness by making digital presentations including multimedia for classroom lectures.
  • Your course should include learning activities, assignments, and assessments that motivate students to use digital technology to find data or information.
  • A trainer must be equipped to utilise digital tools to some extent when working with students. Digital tools can also help you communicate with support personnel or colleagues.

Teaching Strategies

The minimum core digital skills encourage trainers to use modern technology in their teaching strategies.

  • A trainer must embed digital tools like simulations, films, games, and quizzes to help students understand new ideas in a fun and engaging way. Send links and attachments with educational content via email. Be aware that some online educational resources may need to be quality-assured and are protected by copyright.
  • Utilise the tools and resources for the learning environment at their disposals, such as digital whiteboards, projectors, computers, WiFi, and the intranet, selecting the best tools for the learning contexts and objectives. Give students access to internet resources and engage with them through digital techniques.
  • Use some digital tools to engage with students, such as online forums, to answer their queries or allay their fears.

Develop Employable Skills

Employability improves tremendously when the learners are trained to use relevant minimum core digital skills effectively.

  • Trainers can train their learners to engage in self-directed learning activities and build their digital competence and employability skills. To improve their skill sets, encourage learners to stay updated on digital trends to support their industry-relevant activities. Include tasks in your lesson plan that encourage learners to produce texts, sounds, photos, and videos using digital technology.
  • You, as a trainer, should use digital tools to solve problems. This would encourage your students to experiment with different solutions and apply their digital literacy to new scenarios.
  • Student collaboration on projects using digital tools is a holistic approach to training learners. The peer support system for activities or projects helps learners with weaker digital backgrounds.

Industry Specific Training

  • As a trainer, it is essential to use online resources to keep your subject-specific instructional expertise up to date.
  • By embedding standard digital tools into learning activities, assignments, and assessments, teachers may help students improve their digital employability skills. 
  • Motivate learners to use digital technologies to understand the technology used in their field or sector through targeted learning activities, such as researching specific digital technologies and tools used in your specialist area.

Assessment (and feedback)

Trainers should embed digital tools into established methods for assessment and feedback. 

  • Make plans for the learners' use of digital assessment tools, like supporting assignments. 
  • Analyse the fundamental administrative data, learner activity and performance data, and feedback data for individualised interventions. 
  • Utilise digital tools to create a summary of the development of the students so that you may provide them with comments and guidance.

Accessibility and Inclusion 

  • A trainer must stress the importance of ensuring equal access to digital technologies for all learners. Digital technology use can make things more accessible. For example, talking calculators are beneficial for not just visually impaired students but also adds an element of verbal confirmation for learners with other special needs. Speech to text and screen-reading software, electronic maths sheets etc are also examples of digital tools that can make your teaching more inclusive.
  • Digital technologies, such as those that offer activities at various levels and speeds, might enhance learning capabilities. Digital tools like text-to-speech software helps visually impaired, learning disability, or any kind of intellectual disability.


  • As a trainer, you must learn to use digital technologies to improve training. Using internet resources to stay current on teaching or subject-specific information is a great way to stay relevant.
  • You must train the relevant digital skills and encourage students to use technology appropriately and safely. If a trainer embeds the relevant digital skills in teaching, the student will understand its good and bad aspects.
