What is the TAQA qualification?

The TAQA qualification is not one but a suite of qualifications. It is designed for individuals involved in training, assessing, and verifying vocational qualifications and training programs.

What does the TAQA qualification stand for?

TAQA is an acronym for Training, Assessment, and Quality Assurance qualifications. This was originally a term used by City & Guilds for their Education & Training, Assessment, and IQA suite. However, now it has become a more widely-used term to denote the Assessor and Internal Quality Assurance courses, especially the newer versions of these qualifications, which were updated in 2015. The new TAQA courses have replaced the old Assessor A1 and Verifier V1 qualifications.

What is the difference between TAQA Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications?

The level 3 and level 4 qualification in TAQA consists of both awards and certificates. These qualifications are a mix of both competence and knowledge-based units. 

The Level 3 TAQA qualification consists of units that can qualify you to become an assessor and understand assessments. You will have to learn both competence and knowledge-based units. It is ultimately your choice which qualification suits you best.

The Level 4 TAQA qualification enables you to understand internal quality assurance and qualifies you to become an internal quality assurer (IQA). You can choose from theory-only or competence-based units, whichever works best for the progress you seek in your career.

Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (Unit 1 & 2)

An ideal course if you assess workers on the job. In the assignment methods of this TAQA assessor award, you can submit graded observations, witness testimony, professional discussion, work-based evidence, etc.

Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge, and Understanding (Unit 1 & 3)

In this course, you can assess learners in a classroom setting and not on the job. This is what makes it different from the AOC qualification. Assessment methods for this TAQA assessor qualification include tests, exams, observations, demonstrations, presentations, portfolio assignments, etc.

Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (Unit 1, 2 & 3)

The CAVA qualification combines the above awards therefore, you are able to assess learners in the workplace and the classroom. This TAQA assessor qualification is also known as the Lead Assessor certificate.

What are the types of assignments in the TAQA’s Level 3 qualification?

For your TAQA Level 3 qualification, you will be given essay-style assignments for the theory knowledge unit. Work documents will be used as evidence also to meet the assessment criteria for the practical units. Your work documents would generally include Initial assessment paperwork, assessment plans, different assessment methods, assessment evidence and records, feedback, and self-evaluation.

Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (Unit 1 only)

Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment (Unit 1 & 2)

in order to be an internal verifier, this TAQA course is your qualification. This TAQA level 4 course enables you to verify, sample, and also support assessors in your specialist area.

Level 4 Certificate in Leading IQA - Lead Verifier Course  (Units 1,2 & 3)

This full IQA lead certificate not only enables you to become a lead quality assurer in your organisation, you will also manage and support other IVs in your organisation. In this position, you would also be responsible for your organisation’s quality assurance policies and processes, managing compliance and awarding body visits and requirements.

What are the types of assignments in the TAQA’s Level 4 qualification?

For your level 4 TAQA qualification, you will be given essay-style assignments. You can present those assignments in the format of tables too. Furthermore, you will provide an internal quality assurance plan, general quality assurance/verification evidence, IQA observation feedback and report, and evidence of management of all IQA data and standardisation. You would need a plan(s) showing monitoring and standardisation of at least two other internal verifiers and the evidence of communication and reporting.
