L4 Certificate in Leading IQA (Units 1-3) - Lead Verifier Course

This course qualifies you to become a lead internal verifier or Lead IQA. Our distance learning IQA course is approved by NOCN and Pearson Edexcel.

Who is this course suitable for?

This is an NVQ / TAQA qualification which you need to do if you want to become a Lead IQA. In other words, you will be able to both sample the work of assessors in your organisation and monitor a team of internal verifiers.

This online IQA qualification covers a whole range of sectors, for example, beauty, health and social care, childcare, early years, health  and safety, first aid, private security, construction, apprenticeships, hospitality, etc.

What kind of role will this course qualify me for?

The Lead Internal Quality Assurance course qualifies you as a Lead Internal Verifier. This means that once you complete this NVQ Verifier course, you have overall responsibility for your institution's quality assurance systems and processes and you have a team of at least two other IQA's or internal verifiers who you monitor and support.

How long will it take to complete and how is it delivered?

We offer a generous 9 months for you to complete this 100% online course. All work-evidence and assignments are submitted online and we observe you online as well. Most people can complete this in 2-3 months if they have easy access to assessors and other Internal Verifiers in their institutions.

Before you begin, your tutor will conduct a personalised 1:1 initial interview with you to go over all your work-based evidence and help you figure how best to achieve your qualification using your existing IQA work-based evidence.

If you already work as an IQA and wish to upgrade then this is the right course for you. Please note, there are no exemptions from the old D34 or V1 courses to this IQA qualification.

If you do not have access to work-based evidence as an IQA then you might want to do the theory only unit 1 L4 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of IQA course.

If you are not a head of centre, quality nominee or do not have access to a team of internal verifiers then you can do the regular IQA course also known as the L4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment.

Pre-course requirements

The Level 4 Awards and Certificate in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment are available for all candidates who fulfill the following criteria:

Age range: 19+

Core skills:  There are no formal entry requirements for this training course however candidate must have reading and writing skills in order to complete the course

Access to Internet using a laptop / pc / tablet using up to date Windows, Android or Apple operating systems.

Access to two assessors, whose work you can sample and verify.

Access to at least two other Internal Verifiers who quality assure two assessors each.

    As well as being ELN’s Training Manager and Internal Quality Assurer, Mark is also a tutor at ELN. He has amassed over 25 years of training and quality experience, within the Post-16 education and training sector, working in various roles for organisations throughout the UK, Middle East, Asia and Africa and continues to provide External Quality Assurance services for Ofqual and CCEA regulated Awarding Bodies and organisations within the UK. Mark has numerous qualifications across several sectors and holds professional memberships with the ILM, CMI, CQI, IRCA, SET, CIPD, SIA, IOSH and IIRSM. He has amassed over 23 years of training experience, working with all organisational levels, creating, promoting and delivering training solutions in both the public and private sectors, working throughout the UK, Middle East and Africa. He holds numerous qualifications in learning and development including the Diploma in Education and Training, Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, Certificate in Leading Internal Quality Assurance and the Award in External Quality Assurance.

Assessments

Your tutor will conduct a detailed personalised 1:1 initial assessment/interview with you before you begin your Level 4 IQA course. During this interview you will discuss and agree:

  • Assignments and assessment requirements
  • Skillscan to examine your current work-based evidence already being produced during your regular work activities
  • Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Transfers and/or Exemptions that can be claimed

Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment 

6 x essay-style assignments

Assignments can be presented in the format of tables

Work documents can be used instead of theory assignments e.g. IQA reports, policies, procedures, verification records etc

Unit 2: Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment 

Work documents including:

1 x internal quality assurance plan,

General quality assurance / verification evidence,

IQA observation feedback and report

Evidence of management of all IQA data and standardisation.

Wherever possible we will work with you to fulfil the assessment criteria using your existing work evidence.

You will need to complete one observation with at least one of the assessors. This can be done via video recording, live observation via Zoom or we can authorise a suitably qualified colleague to complete this on our behalf.

Unit 3: Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Expertise

Work documents including:

A few brief written statements

Monitoring plan(s) showing monitoring and standardisation of at least two other internal verifiers

Evidence of communication and reporting.

You will need to complete one observation while meeting with your IQA team. This can be done via video recording, live observation via Zoom or we can authorise a suitably qualified colleague to complete this on our behalf.

Frequently asked questions

Internal Quality Assurance is what you need to be an internal verifier and to monitor the training staff in your organisation, monitor learning, delivery and assessments happening in your centre as well as legal matters like Data Protection.  

The IQA unit 2 qualifies you as an internal verifier who can sample and verify assessor work. The third unit qualifies you as a Lead IQA meaning you can lead/manage a team of internal verifiers. 

Yes it is a BTEC qualification awarded by Pearson Edexcel.

Yes, if you do the IQA unit 1, you can then purchase the remaining two units later. Price will depend on the retail price and/or discounts available at the time but we do offer loyalty discounts for returning customers.

You can volunteer or work part-time or freelance to access the work-based requirements.

Yes, all the courses and units are self-paced and can be combined with the practical units at a later stage.

There is no difference between the qualification content, delivery or assessment. Both Pearson Edexcel and NOCN operate under Ofqual and offer the same qualification so this is purely a matter of which brand you prefer. Pearson are more widely-recognised but NOCN process the certificates much quicker.

Unfortunately there's no direct RPL from the D-suite of quals to the current IQA course approved by any awarding body. This is because the format of the qualification has changed. However, once you register we can supplement some criteria with a professional discussion. Your tutor will cover the possibilities with you in the initial interview.

Yes, City & Guilds 401, 402 are their own internal unit numbers for the Internal Quality Assurance units 1 & 2. These two units combine into the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance (or Level 4 of the TAQA) and qualifies you to be an internal verifier. We offer this qualification through Pearson Edexcel and NOCN however, it's just a difference in 'brand name'. They all offer the same Ofqual units and qualifications.
