We will conduct a detailed personalised 1:1 initial assessment/interview with you before you begin your Level 3 Assessor course.

Evidence for all learning outcomes must come from carrying out assessments as part of your job. The assessment methods acceptable for Unit 2 are work-based (observation, witness testimony, questioning etc) and the assessment methods for Unit 3 are classroom based (tests, quizzes, portfolios etc). 

If you don't currently assess learners then you should do the theory only assessor unit - L3 Award in Understanding Principles and Practices of Assessment.

If you assess learners in the workplace only then please go for the Competence Assessor course - Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment.

If you assess your learners in the classroom only then you choose the Classroom Assessor course - L3 Award in Assessing Vocational Skills, Knowledge & Understanding.

This course is available for all candidates who fulfil the following criteria:

Age range: 19+

Core skills: There are no formal entry requirements for this training course however candidate must have reading and writing skills in order to complete the course

Access to Internet using a laptop / pc / tablet using up to date Windows, Android or Apple operating systems.

Access to two learners who you assess in the classroom and in the workplace. You can use different learners for the classroom and workplace assessments, if required.

L3 Assessor Certificate - Assessment

Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

Assessed by short theory assignments x 8 and 1 peer discussion.

Assignments can be presented in various formats, including written discussion, tables, graphics, screenshots or examples of work-based evidence.

Work documents can be used instead of theory assignments e.g. assessment reports, policies, procedures, assessment records etc

Unit 2: Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

Work documents including:

2 x assessment plans, assessment evidence for 2 learners, feedback records and self-evaluations.

You will also need to complete one observation with at least one of the learners. This can be done via video recording, live observation via Zoom or we can authorise a suitably qualified colleague to complete this on our behalf.

Wherever possible, we will work with you to fulfil the assessment criteria using your existing work evidence.

Unit 3: Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

Work documents including:

2 x initial assessment paperwork, 4 x assessment plans using a different assessment method each, assessment records.

You will also need to complete one observation with at least one of the learners. This can be done via video recording, live observation via Zoom or we can authorise a suitably qualified colleague to complete this on our behalf.

Wherever possible, we will work with you to fulfil the assessment criteria using your existing work evidence.

Both learners need to be 16+ years of age for the Assessor course.

You can work part-time or voluntary in a local college. You can also do the theory unit now and add the practical units later.

This Lead Assessor training is for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a classroom or work environment so may not be relevant. 

Yes, this CAVA training is ideal to qualify as a childcare Assessor and can be done alongside with your current role assessing apprentices. However, if you assess only apprentices and not learners on the childcare NVQ qualifications, then you might want to do the End Point Assessor course.

The CAVA covers end point assessment (EPA) which is the name of assessments for apprenticeship qualifications.
