You can study the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET), the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) to become a qualified trainer.

However, if you wish to assess beauty or hairdressing courses, you can study the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement course. If you're unable to meet the requirements for this course, but still wish to become a beauty assessor, you can study the theory unit only Assessor qualification. The same applies if you wish to become a hairdressing assessor.

Be a Hair & Beauty Trainer - Interpreting Qualifications

This is a great introductory qualification. It will enable you to understand the basic principles behind teaching and help to build up your knowledge and confidence within a teaching environment. It is a fairly quick (around 3-6 months) course and is easily achieved online or within a classroom environment. You do not have to have any teaching experience and there is no requirement to be in a teaching position as it is mostly theory-based, however, you will also be required to do an observed micro-teach as well in order for you to demonstrate what you have learned.

How the PTLLS became Award in Education and Training

In all my years of teaching, I have never come across a qualification that has changed names so often, leading to so much perplexity. This modest little qualification has previously been known as many names despite changing surprisingly little in content or structure. As an educator, it is a bit of an annoyance when people (and fellow trainers!) cannot seem to remember the name of the qualification they are enquiring about.

Independent reviews say we're top!
